COD, Sofa , by Filipa Aguiar & João Pereira
The COD sofa originated during the Product Design course at Lisbon School of Design and was developed in collaboration with fellow architect and designer João Pereira. The project began with a search for common ground between two distinct design cultures: Portuguese and Nordic. The process involved studying traditional Portuguese furniture, its construction methods and use of wood, alongside an interest in the simplicity of form and clarity of construction associated with Northern European design. Beyond bringing references together, the aim was to explore where these two design languages could meet. The main Portuguese reference was the traditional Rabo-de-Bacalhau chair, a piece of unknown authorship deeply rooted in Portugal’s furniture heritage. Of particular interest was the way its simple construction conveyed both pragmatism and elegance.
