Michael Remerich Biography

I studied under Andreas Brandolini and Jerszy Seymour two designers who taught me early that design must have meaning, and that it is an attitude. After graduating with distinction from HBK Saar, I moved to Berlin and worked with Werner Aisslinger on projects for global brands like Vitra, Magis, Moroso and Cappellini. Those years shaped my view, that good design is not about style, but about clarity, emotion, and the courage to leave things out.
In 2011, I founded Studio Rem with little more than conviction, a sketchbook and a deep belief in honest ideas. Over time, my work gained recognition: I was selected as one of the Design Talents by the German Design Council, received the German Design Award in 2017 for Molekyl, was named Newcomer of the Year by A&W Architektur & Wohnen magazine and received the Archiproducts Award in 2018 for Nebl and in 2025 for Meemo.
But awards aren’t what drives me. What drives me is the moment when an idea, a minimum of form, and a silent story combine into something that feels just right. Something you can’t forget even if you’re not sure why.
In my Berlin studio, I create objects that are minimal, but full of presence. Cautious, but bold. Emotional, but precise. I don’t follow trends. I follow emotions. I care about the physics behind a curve, the atmosphere around a surface, the silence of a good idea.
Because in the end, it’s not the shape that matters it’s the echo it leaves behind.
