Born in Lisbon, Catarina's first passion was architecture. He spent his childhood drawing houses and imagining the characters that would inhabit them one day. This interest accompanied her throughout her youth and at the age of 18 she went to study architecture at the Instituto Superior Técnico, in Lisbon. Throughout the course, and admiring the work of architects such as Alvar Aalto or Siza Vieira, he realized that architecture can act on various scales, from the macro scale of the city, to the micro scale of the small screw that holds a door. And his creative urge grew.
He worked in several architecture, interior design and even engineering studios, wanting to learn as much as possible about design and construction of spaces. This desire also took her to the Lisbon School of Design, where she studied furniture design and where she met the Porventura team and philosophy.
